"THE AUDIO DRAMA PRODUCTION PODCAST IS A FANTASTIC RESOURCE AND MORE PEOPLE NEED TO FIND IT AND UTILISE ITS' AMAZING USEFUL CONTENT." |
Sarah Golding and Fiona Thraille have been championing people and best practice in the creation of audio drama for... a wee while. (Though Fiona has been doing this at least twice as long as Sarah!)(And she has better groovier hair.)
As well as starting DASHING ONIONS, and developing an established audio book narrator career, Fiona has been on the audio scene in a variety of guises. She worked as a producer and editor for companies like Pendant Audio and has accrued great experience of playing a variety of characters in Audio Dramas such as 'When We Were Two' (DASHING ONIONS), 'Edict Zero' (SLIPGATE 9), 'PIXIE'(RICK COSTE PRODUCTIONS), The Amelia Project (IMPROBABLE FICTIONS) and so many more. Sarah has been a fan of many a show and also had cameo roles in a huge variety of AD episodes - over 100 different podcasts now - faves being acting with Fiona in Amelia Project (IMPROBABLE FICTIONS), Edict Zero (Slipgate 9) and A Scottish Podcast & Hostile Worlds (Matthew McLean) and oh so many more. Both have more recently started their own production companies for audio drama, Sarah starting Quirky Voices in Sept 2018, Fiona with Dashing Onions in Feb 2019, with a view to producing unique and hopefully brilliantly enjoyable audio drama works. Sarah also does MADIVA podcast, as, in 'real life' she teaches kids for drama and LAMDA exams, and wanted to utilise that love of sharing and teaching by sharing her own experience as a VA so far. Her main thinking being to make a groovy quirky audio drama voice acting podcast to help folks navigate the minefield of indie voice acting, and also, let's face it, get to talk to her audio drama heroes heroines and more! They formed a great friendship whilst working on the HUGELY USEFUL Audio Drama Production Podcast - a kind of how-to make audio drama podcast, first started way back in 2015 by Matthew Mclean and Robert Cudmore. They joined in 2017 and Sarah handed to baton to Austin Beach and Scooter Mann in the Spring of 2018. Their fave eps include the From Conception to Production Summer season, The Ep about DAWS, Writing Tools and Voice Acting. Go check them out! Both are also v keen and experienced voice actors, and yearned for more challenges... and also wanted to encourage more participation in the making of AD, and so, last year, created the 'Audio Drama Production Podcast Original Audio Drama Shorts Extravaganza! in collaboration with Aural Stage Studios.' This was performed at The Vaults Festival in London to a hearty reception, with winning scripts by Julie Hoverson, Neil Jones and Kaitlin State. YOU CAN HEAR THAT RECORDING HERE Judges were Sarah Golding, Maxamillian John and Steve Cardinal. 57 scripts entered and 14 of these were then also made into full cast audio dramas by AD Luminaries such as Thoreau Smiley, Zachary Fortais-Gomme, Tanja Milojevic, Pete Lutz, Alexander Danner, James Oliva, AND SO MANY MORE! You can hear those on the Audio Drama Network page on Spreaker, here. (Just click 'More' at the bottom of the first list of shows and scroll down for the ADPP Scripts) Maxamillion John came to be absolutely outstanding as the live foley innovator, and there were vocal performances from Beth Eyre, Karim Kronfli, Robert Cudmore, Fiona Thraille and Sarah Golding. Original music was created by the amazing Katharine Seaton and Tom Rory Parsons. Legends both. And the wondrous Andy Goddard did our tech prep and live recording setup. and was obviously amaazinggg. Sarah does voice acting workshops wherever she can and this year did so at the Brilliant PODFESTUK In Birmingham, (TICKETS AVAILABLE NOW FOR 2020) and at the Women's Podcast Fest in London's Shout Out Live at the lovely King's Place. Do contact her if you'd like a workshop for your convention, university, event, college or school. Both have had a hand in creating some great teams and works for the 11th hour audio shows - brilliant audio drama horror recorded and edited in the month of October. We recently heard that Wolpertinger by Kessi Riliniki won 1st prize for English Speaking AD at the Horspielsommer fest in Leipzig. Congrats all! Cast included Heather Spiegel-Auden, Sarah Rhea-Werner and Erika Sanderson and Sarah Golding Directed. All of the 11th hour shows can be listened to here. Do enter this year if you can! See the Aural Stages website for more details... Both Sarah and Fiona are keen to be helpful on a variety of forums and admin the Facebook group Audio Drama Hub. Sarah also edits the Fiction Podcast Weekly newsletter that comes out in collaboration with thepodcasthost.com (and often invaluable help from Lindsay Harris-Friel, writer of Jarnsaxa Rising).
